Australia Day

Australia Day is coming up, 26 January, 2017. So, let me just put it out there right now that this is not political. I love Australia Day, I love Australia and I believe that it is a day where we should all come together and celebrate the wonderful country we live in.

So this morning when I woke up I had this urge to do a bag that symbolized Australia for me. Crikey it is the 10th of January! probably should have had this moment a couple of weeks ago!

So many ideas, so what do I choose to put into my craft? I start with a Kangaroo, I actually thought of the signs on the side of the road that remind us to be aware of Kangaroos. So Bela did her thing with that image and it just kind of grew from there, but I have to tell you, while you may not look at my Kangaroo and think Aboriginal, it seriously influenced my work all day today.

I didn't start with any particular design for either bag, just an idea for a Kangaroo and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I wondered about my Aboriginal flag... would anyone be offended? would anyone think it was wrong? Leave it off altogether?...I should have placed it to the left of the Australian flag to balance up my picture but it had to be on the Australian flag, part of it. Not political, just because.

I had a great day making these bags today and thinking "...where will the Aussie Icon Bela Cigana bags be on Australia day? Well, at the time of writing this..ooh it is late..An Aussie friend living in Qatar saw the Bags not long after I posted them on Facebook. I updated the shipping section to add Qatar and now the little Aussie Kangaroo bag is heading to the other side of the world first thing tomorrow morning! A bit like my baby is going to aunts house.

I cut out a Life guard flag today too, so maybe I make that theme tomorrow.
